What the [BLANK] happened this weekend?

A FUN weekend!

image

My new fridge came in this weekend! Friday night and Saturday morning I spent the majority of my energy on cleaning out the fridge, cleaning the kitchen, and making room for the delivery guys. I went from a freezer on top model to a french door with freezer on bottom. it’s a little bigger and sticks out and that small difference is driving me a little crazy. See the picture above. I like the space inside but overall the change has been, a little difficult to get used to. It’s only been 2 days so I know I’ll get over it.

After my fridge was delivered one of my book club co-organizers convinced me to go to the Passport to Romance Reader Event at The Westin in Bellevue. I’m SO happy she convinced me to go. Most of the events I’ve gone to consist of tables lined up and each author has a whole table or half, they are selling their books and giving away swag. Pens, chap-stick, bookmarks TONS of bookmarks, shot glasses and other odds and ends cover tables. I once went to one that was giving away promotional condoms, flavored condoms. It’s all rather fun but this event topped the cake.

Passport to Romance Reader Event

We each got a swag bag, if you got there before they were gone. The bags have bookmarks and other promotional items. What surprised me the most? The free books inside the bag, yes free novels! My friend even got a hardback. Once you got inside the room, you still had tables and swag and authors selling their books but these were smaller round tables and authors actually talked and conversed with you. The atmosphere was great. You could get drinks. You could ogle the male cover models who were there. You could enter in raffles to win a bunch of prizes. You could vote for your favorite book cover. The best part, besides chatting with the authors and publishers, and the most surprising, more free books. This was a great way for me to try some new authors. I noticed that a large number of the authors at the event primarily did electronic books and since I tend to avoid digital books, it was nice to see them have hard copies for me to read.

At the end of the event, while my friend and I were waiting to take a picture of the adorable and studly cover models, one of the authors asked me if I was interested in paranormal romance. Of course I said yes, I mean that’s what my book club is all about. Turns out one of the raffle winners who won her book already had it and she was giving away the copy the winner didn’t want. That got us to chatting and I told her about my book club and she asked if we would like the first 2 books of her series to read. How awesome is that?? Once we get together to drop of and pick up the books my book club will get to read books directly from an author. We’ve had that happen once before, with Richelle Mead and it was pretty awesome. If you would like to see which books I got, you can check out my ECWC2015 shelf on Goodreads.

After Saturday’s fun night, Sunday was boring. Woke up feeling like I had a hangover, which I might have. I ran some errands and then played video games while watching Bones. All together I had a super fun weekend.

What the [BLANK] happened this weekend?

The best thing to come out of this weekend was a big fat win for the Sounders and it was fantastic being in the stadium for it. The Sounders vs Portland game was on Sunday in front of 64k+ fans. We’ve been struggling and it was not pretty but we will take the win. While It was not pretty, we fought hard. I feel like they played with so much more passion and you could see there was a different energy on the field. I hope they continue with the energy I saw on Sunday and finish the season strong. I also heard the Seahawks won their game as well. I could not watch that one but glad to hear they won. Yay for Seattle teams, I won’t even mention the team that plays at Safeco…

The big thing this weekend. I’m not sure if you are aware, but Washington State, well the Pacific Northwest, has been under attack from Mother Nature this summer. We’ve set record highs, we are in a drought, wildfires are everywhere and this past weekend we had a massive wind storm. Trees uprooted, power went out and some people still don’t have power. Now I’m not complaining because I only lost my power for about 30 seconds. Enough time to turn off my TV and interrupt my Buffy marathon but it did screw with my wifi. I’m just thankful that no major trees feel in my area and I didn’t get hurt. Unfortunately this can not be said for everyone. It’s just been a tough few months for my poor state and the people living here.

What the [BLANK] happened this weekend?

This past weekend went WAY too fast.

I went to the Mariners game with some friends. This was the first game I’ve been to this season and probably my last. The firework display after the game was great and the most exciting thing during the game was watching the wave. What does that say about your team when the crowd is more focused on continuing the wave then watching the game? We also ate fantastic nachos out of a helmet.

I played Skyrim most of the day Saturday and did some cleaning. At 7pm I watch the Sounders get beat by Real Salt Lake. That was a frustrating game. RSL’s goals were not fantastic or anything like that and the Sounders Defense didn’t play horribly but we just can’t score. It doesn’t help when the moment your team decides to push harder they get instant yellow cards, yet Mulholland a RSL player can have 5 fouls called and get nothing. We also messed up the few opportunities RSL gave us, again frustrating. We don’t have many games left so I hope they can step it up soon. Oh I also finished a few rows of my scarf during the game.

I did some baking as well. Nothing fancy but I had a craving for chocolate chip cookies. I was able to get the whole batch cooked before my oven decided to stop working. The stove top, clock and lights work but the oven won’t heat up. I’m going to see if changing out the heating element gets it to work again. So weird that it was working fine in the AM though. This will be a first for me!

What the [BLANK] happened this weekend?

My weekend begun with a Seahawks preseason game Friday night. Yes I know they were not playing their top players but it was still a tough game to watch. The universe decided to do me a favor and with only the 4th quarter left, my power went out. With nothing else to do because I could not use my phone data to watch the rest of the game, I went to bed!

Saturday I wanted to get started on some of my cleaning. I’ve been thinking about switching to natural products for some time but have always been to scared to switch. It doesn’t really have anything to do with cost as much as what chemicals I’m using and what if I ruin something!  Saturday I decided to try out  50/50 Distilled White Vinegar and water on my entry way. I added a few drops of Sweet Orange essential oil to help with the smell. Cleaning wise, it pretty much is like most store bought stuff. My entry way is a bitch to clean because it’s not smooth, the dirt can build up in sections. I’m going to have to really scrub at it to get it clean no matter what I use but this was a cheap and chemical free way to clean. Next up I’m going to experiment with carpet cleaners.

I went through all of my CDs and separated them into keep, sell/donate and download piles. I need to figured out if my sell pile is even worth anything to anyone and I need to get an external drive for my music. I currently don’t have anything to back up my music on and I don’t want to use a cloud storage. Oh and I even found a cassette tape I used to listen to ALL THE TIME when I was in Elementary school. After the sorting I left to meet up with my friend A. We had planned on going to see a free movie in the park but it had rained that morning and dark clouds were rolling in. We decided to stay home and pick up some Redbox movies, since I had a few free codes and have tacos for dinner. Pretty fantastic end to the day even if we didn’t get to do what we have originally planned.

Sunday was a completely lazy day.  I started a new game in Skyrim. I have not played this game in forever and had a blast starting up again. I think I put a load in the dishwasher, other than that I think I played Skyrim all day! Oh and the best part about this last Sunday, the SOUNDERS WON! We had new players play, we had Oba back and all the players seemed to be on top of their game. It was fantastic!

What the [BLANK] happened this weekend?

I had my monthly book club meeting this weekend. It was slightly different than most of our meetings since we did some crafts during discussions. Good book discussions though. We are reading a series that 90% of the members like, so that helps. To be honest, I’m not sure why we are reading the series because most of us have already read the whole series. Oh I know why, because it’s a fantastic series. We love Kate Daniels!

I also came up with a pretty aggressive reading schedule for myself. I’m not behind on my book club books, with the exception of the Anita Blake series. In order to keep up I need to stick to the following schedule though. I have 10 books to read by October 2nd. My upcoming reading;

  • Finish the second half of Second Grave on the Left (8/10-8/12 : 62 pages a day)
  • Start Dark Debt (8/15-8/19 : 93 pages a day)
  • Start Night Seeker (8/19-8/23 : 85 pages a day)
  • Start Summer Knight (8/24-8/28 : 113 pages a day)
  • Start Affliction (8/29-9/4 : 82 pages a day)
  • Start Third Grave dead ahead (9/5-9/9 : 78 pages a day)
  • Start Jason (9/10-9/16 : 43 pages a day)
  • Start Magic Bleeds (9/17-9/20 : 117 pages a day)
  • Start Dead Ice (9/20-10/2: 42 pages a day)

This weekend I also took my nephew to see Ant-Man. My sister needed help this weekend and when I asked my nephew if he wanted to see it, he got super excited. He really likes superhero movies and even knew more about the movie than I did going in. The poor kid had never seen a Marvel movie in the theaters before, glad I could change that for him. After the movie we went and played mini golf. He really likes mini golf but boy does that kid need to learn how to accept the word no. Every time I told him no or not right now he would try to negotiate with me. When I would repeat myself and say no he would start to throw a fit. Luckily it was never a full blown tantrum but damn that kid tries to negotiate everything.

Other than that I was pretty lazy and didn’t do anything productive, except run the dishwasher and do 1 load of laundry.

What the [BLANK] happened this weekend?

Does this blog post title look familiar? I’m trying to build or create a posting routine. Since I’m generally not in the writing mood on the weekends, I decide that this title would be my weekend update. I might change it later on but for now, it’s staying. Haha.

On Saturday I spent the morning at Maker’s Mercantile, I seriously love this place. I enjoyed their Saturday morning breakfast, a cup of coffee and knitted for a while. After that I finally gave the dog a bath. She hides from me after every bath, I just don’t get it. She needed it pretty bad though and as much as she hates it, she stunk!

Saturday was also the Sounders game against the Whitecaps. I was looking forward to the game. We COULD have taken home the Cascadia cup. The majority of our starters were back, things were looking up. Apparently the team did not get that memo. We have been on a losing streak, I think in the last 8 games we have won 1. The games we do lose, we lose it in the last 5+ mins of the game. It’s tough to watch your team lose but even worse when you know they are great players that are playing like shit. I’d like to pick on our midfield, because they really are playing the worst but it’s a team effort and they need to get back into fighting form. To make things worse, every time the Whitecaps scored, they would run over to their sideline and take a quick water break. How rude is that??? I get celebrating and encourage it, but what they did was a time waster and uncalled for. If I was a sounder player I would be fired up for the Concacaf game we have against them on Wednesday. Okay now I’m riled up again, MOVING ON!

Sunday was a slow day. I played some DragonAge and The Sims 4. I received an email about 7 free days for my World of Warcraft account. Contemplating doing that just to play my beloved character again for 7 days. I raided M-Th for about 4 years and the end of Wrath and beginning of Cata killed my love of the game. I would play that game casually if there was no sub but I just don’t have the same time or money like I used to.

After breaking from computer games, I did some spot cleaning in the dining room. It’s looking nice and clear. I did a Harry Potter marathon on Sunday as I played games and cleaned. I really need to read those books. My book club has told me in the past  they are thinking of giving me the boot because I have NOT read them yet. They are on my list…..so let me stayyyy. Plus who would lead if I was gone!

Sunday night I went over my planning. I was getting stuff together for my book club meeting on Friday and realized that this Friday is the last meeting one our members will be going to. She has this fabulous opportunity and will be moving away and I really want to do something nice for her. Turns out she’s going to miss the meetup but I think my idea is easier if she is not there anyways. I’m planning on getting a farewell card for the group to sign and then taking a group picture. Just something for her to remember us by. I also wanted to do a farewell package from us. I sent an email to my book club members asking for their help in filling out and coming up with Open When letter ideas. I have a few ideas but I’m excited to see if anyone else came up with something.

What the [BLANK] happened this weekend?

This weekend was a successful weekend, well productive at least. I was SUPPOSED to post this yesterday but my NEPHEW WAS BORN! So excited to have another nephew! Okay now on to the post.

My voice came back and while I’m still coughing here and there, I sound 100% better. On Saturday I helped my friend paint her bedroom. We changed it from mocha to a pale grey. Then we moved in all her larger furniture, hung up wall decorations and shelves. and purged a lot of her makeup, clothes and items she totally forgot about. I had to tell her sorry when I left because I was really hard on her and while I’m coming to terms with purging things I NEVER use, she has not. I was rather harsh, but what are friends for right?? We also painted a few furniture pieces that she wanted to match to her new color scheme. I had planned on going to the gym Saturday but I was at her house from 9am to 8pm. I felt that while I did not get a real workout in, I did work pretty hard. Seriously. I’m short so I was in charge of painting the lower half of the wall which meant I was in a squat position most of the time. the back of my legs are sore. I miss being sore.

Sunday was sort of a lazy day but I worked out a schedule/timeline for finishing my friends scarf as well as a timeline for finishing my book for book club. I started working on clearing out my dining room and getting it ready for a battling chaos post. I have mass amounts of books that I need to purge as well but I feel like that’s going to be incredibly tough and I want to save it for last. If I do it now, it will just end up pushing back other minimalist projects that I can get done quicker. So overall a productive weekend.

I also planned out my week using my awesome Plum Paper Planner. Adore my Chris Evans Dashboard, haha.

Empty Space

I’ve been a little preoccupied lately and forgot to do a blog post. I even forgot to send a mother’s day card. I did call her, I’m not a bad daughter! I made up for it though. I sent a mother’s and father’s day card with an AMC theater gift card for a movie date night. I think that will do. 🙂

So what’s keeping me busy? Honestly it’s cleaning but I set myself up for some trouble. I need to read like 5 books in the next 2 weeks and have been attempting to minimalize my home. I also just celebrated my 30th birthday, that has been weighing on me and I’m going on a mini vacation at the end of the month. Just a lot happening for me this month and while I know I need to start cleaning up my life sooner rather than later, it’s just kind of catching up to me.

On Saturday my friend and I did dinner and a movie. We do this every year for my birthday and with all the amazing movies that come out in May, seeing a good one is easy. Now I’m a planner, not sure if you have picked up on that while reading this blog but I am. I decided on a time and place to meet my friend. I was running late so she ran in to buy the movie tickets before we went to IKEA. I KNOW when I checked online the movie was playing at the theater but turns out, it was not. Apparently the theater didn’t get the movie and had lots of people trying to see the movie there. The nice attendant told my friend that the movie was playing down the street but it’s earlier than we wanted. We run over to the other theater and buy our tickets and end up skipping IKEA. Totally bummed out because I love IKEA. So my friend and I walk into the theater and this is what we see, not a single person there.

IMG_20150516_143454We went to see Pitch Perfect 2 on a Saturday on its opening weekend. This is an older theater but the new theater was not even playing the movie, what is going on! Well as soon as we sat down, the theater started filling up. My theory, everyone went to the new theater first, because online it said they had it and when it was not showing they were told to go down the street to this one! Fantastic movie by the way, not as great as the first but still fantastic.

I hope to have an updated blog post for my Battling Chaos series soon but it’s taking some time and I’ve run into some problems. Here is the before picture, see what I have to work with!

SuperBowl Weekend

It’s going to be an exciting weekend here in Washington State! Go Hawks!

So I’m ALREADY behind on my reading goal for this year. I blame Maplecroft. I started reading Maplecroft because I didn’t get it in time to read for my book club meeting but it’s just so dull. It has the potential to be intriguing and the story seems like it would be great but I just can’t get into it. I have the book for another month, then it goes back into my TBR pile. To encourage myself, I decide to dive into Night Myst by Yasmine Galenorn.

NightMyst521

I’ve seen Yasmine Galenorn at book signings, a romance tea talk and at the Seattle Mystery Shop. The last time I saw her, one of my book club co-leaders and I talked to her about her series and we decided to start reading her Indigo Court series.  I’ve read one of her other series but my co-leader and I decide to start one of her series that is completed and only has 5 books. Since Night Myst is one that I need to read for my book club and since book club is next Friday, I figured I should start it. I started it and am almost finished with it, so a book review will be coming soon.

im in

I think I said this before, but I’m sort of a bandwagon Seahawks fan. I generally don’t watch football games, unless I’m at my friend’s house who watches them all. I tend to watch 2 games a year, the Superbowl, if we are going and the Apple Cup. GO COUGS! The reason I’m bring this up again is because I just need to say how awesome it is to see local businesses and the community rocking the Seahawks colors and 12th man flags. I’m not sure if you’ve ever been part of something so inspiring and that evokes a sense of pride and joy, but it’s a great feeling. I wish more things brought communities together like this. I’m excited for the big game tomorrow and can’t wait to see the Seahawks crush it! Oh and I bought a dozen cookies from Sweet Themes Bakery and I’m super disappointed. I’ll never order off an order form again because what the form said and what I got are vastly different. I specifically choose the cookies that did NOT say square and that’s what I got. I complained to the owner and since they only had the footballs left, we switched out some of the cookies. Still angry that this would even happen.

TBD

You read that right and no it’s not a typo. I almost failed my journalism class in college because of my lack of attention grabbing headlines! I have a hard time coming up with appropriate titles and headlines but that’s not the main reason I almost failed that class, but I digress. This weekend turned out to be very productive and awesome, for a lot of different reasons but mostly because this is how I kicked it off!

WP_000283

I spent most of the weekend getting ready for a party, cooking rice, taco meat, mexican brownies and cutting up all the veggies. My plan this weekend was to get out of the house at least once a day. If I don’t, I’ll just lay on the couch watching Netflix all weekend and that will make me feel horrible come Monday. Saturday was a no-brainer since I had to go to my friend’s house but Sunday, well I planned on sleeping in. I had some items to return from the party so that gave me a great reason to get dressed and head out into the world!

Have you ever returned groceries? It’s a pretty weird feeling walking back into the store with shopping bags. People look at you funny and you know they are silently judging you. After making all my returns I headed home for some relaxation and chilling with the dog. Got bored so I started reading Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness. This is book two, and I’ll do a book review soon but I’m excited to see what problems they cause in the past! To finish off the weekend I played a few hours of DragonAge Inquisition, LOVE this game.

SEA-HAWKS!

Oh yeah, the Seahawks kicked the Panthers asses this last Saturday and at the end of the week, the Packers are coming to town. It was a great game and pretty sure Bam Bam Kam showed up to a track meet instead of a football game (hurdles and long distance running). Just as an FYI, I’m not a huge football fan and you can call me a bandwagon fan all you want, I just like supporting my hometown teams (except the Huskies). Who the F cares how long you have been a fan as long as you are one. Anyways my friend is a huge fan and I was worried the party I was throwing for her would be ruined if the Seahawks lost, good thing they didn’t.

A’s 30th Party

My friend takes her age pretty seriously and was feeling the grumps from turning 30 in December. I know woman think turning 30 is bad, I don’t get it but someone like my friend doesn’t feel that great about it. To help cheer her up I planned a Fiesta Bday party for her and friends. Hence the fiesta in a cart picture above. My idea was to let the emotional burn of turning 30 cool down a little before we celebrated her big day. It’s really hard to have a birthday party at the end of December so, January works just fine. I’d started planning this at the end on November and the day I picked just happened to be set as the first playoff game for the Seahawks. Not as many people showed up as we had hoped due to football parties and the game but we still had a blast. I do have leftover taco meat that will last me a month, the bright side, I know!

That’s a wrap for my TBD weekend report and this week promises to be even more exciting! No, I’m kidding I live a relatively boring life but we will see what I can squeeze out of this week.
